Our Heather Parker interview:
What is your profession?
I am an exhausted former media person, now contracting to a management consultancy. I’ve crossed to the dark side!
What was your dream job when you were growing up?
I wanted to save the world, of course.
What does a typical day in your working life look like?
I’m childishly excited by it. I lurch from one unknown to the next, and the ability to contribute is all down to an ability to listen really well, and synthesise really complex things. Everything I’ve ever done in my life has come together in this work.
What is your favourite leisure activity?
I’m not sure this counts as leisure, but on those mornings I get it together, there’s an approximately hour-long circular cycle from my home, over a hill, and back along the Atlantic Seaboard, that is just bliss. I get home buzzing and thrilled with the beauty of the place we live, and those who people it. If ozone is a drug, that’s how I mainline it.
Any memories you would like to share about Societi Bistro?
This is my home-from-home. I have a thousand lovely memories of Societi Bistro, but they all come together in a generic memory of being outdoors here on a warm summer Cape Town night, in great company, loving the food and the wine, and feeling fully present and at peace. There are few places where that’s the way it is.
